I’m a Nail Technician – whats your superpower?

As the Owner of Magnetic, I would like to wish you a very happy and prosperous 2017.

Our goal at Magnetic this year is simple... we want to help you succeed in your Nail Business. We want to teach you how to become a better Nail Technician, get more customer, increase retail sales, make more profit and achieve your goals, and, starting today we are going to give you the tools to do it.

It is that time of the year when everyone is hoping and wishing that 2017 will be better than 2016. It is a new year, with new opportunities and possibilities, but, please don’t base your 2017 business strategy on hopes and wishes. Instead, I want you to approach 2017 with the right thinking and the right plan of action.

Is your thinking about Nail Technology keeping you poor?

Psychologists will tell you what you think determines what you do and how you do it. As I look back over all the consultations I have had with Nail Technicians last year, I have noticed that it is not the economy holding Nail Technicians back, it is their thinking about their work and the industry.

For example, I often hear clients say, “I’m just a Nail Technician.” Or, “you can't make money in the Nail Industry.”

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!

Here are three questions you need to answer before you start business this year. The answers will determine your level of business success in 2017.

Question # 1 – Am I more than just a Nail Technician?

When you wake up in the morning and you look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see?

If you see a Nail Technician, then you are probably thinking incorrectly about what you are and how important your work is.

Instead of seeing yourself as just a Nail Technician, you have to start thinking of yourself as a highly trained, passionate and professional Nail Artist. Some of you reading this may be thinking, “But Jackie, you are just playing with words…”

No I’m not.

How you see yourself determines how the world sees you. If you don't think of yourself as a professional Nail Artist, your customers won't either. Your opinion of yourself will become your reality. If you don’t believe in yourself, your career and your skill, why should anyone else? What’s more – if you don’t believe in yourself, why should anyone pay you a premium fee?

Take a look at the picture above. You don’t do nails, you create works of art! As a Professional Nail Designer, you are doing the work of a Psychologist and Architect. What you do is important, even spiritual. You don’t simply apply product to people’s nails, you transform people’s self-images on a daily basis.

In the words of Charles Revson, the founder of Revlon Cosmetics, "You give women hope and confidence."

Thinking of yourself as a highly trained Professional Nail Artist will do two very important things for you...

  • Thinking of yourself as a Professional Nail Artist will change the way your customer sees you.
  • Thinking of yourself as a Professional Nail Artist will change your perception of how much your time is really worth.

To help your customer see you as a professional Nail Artist, we have created a poster that you can download and put up in your salon. Question # 2 - Do I believe in the Nail Industry?

Magnetic Nail Academy is passionate about the Nail Industry because we believe it is a growing industry where Nail Artists with the right approach towards nails and business can not only succeed, but prosper and create a great future for themselves. Do you believe that?

If not, listen to this. According to research done by the world renown California based “Nails Magazine,” $8.51 Billion was spent globally on nail services last year. That’s a lot of money! The nail industry grew last year and will continue to grow in 2017. Here’s why…

Basic Human Nature Keeps the Nail Industry Strong

It is a dermatological fact that the skin on a woman’s hands ages up to ten time faster than the skin on her face. Think about what a woman’s hands and feet go through each and every day. It is the one part of her body that is always exposed to other people, to sunlight, water, dirt harsh chemicals, soap, cuts, abrasions etc. Hands have to grip a steering wheel in the sun, wash dishes, wash kids. Hands are the first part of a woman’s body to show signs of ageing. My point - Artificial Nail enhancements make hands and feet look slimmer, more feminine and younger.

Because of this, there will always be a demand for professional Nail Technicians.

Women will always spend money on nails – the question is, will they spend their money in your nail business or will they spent it with your competitor?

Do I believe in Quality, Ongoing Education?

Magnetic found that the top 4 business challenges South African Nail Artists faced in 20 16 were;

  1. Building/ retaining clientele
  2. Market over-saturation (too many nail bars in your area)
  3. Discount Salons (what will you do when someone cheaper opens up near you)
  4. Educating clients about quality work & fair pricing

And the 4 biggest technical challenges faced by Nail Technicians in 2016 were

  1. Staying current on trends, products, training.
  2. Improving Gel skills
  3. Nail Art and design
  4. Acrylic skills and troubleshooting

These challenges are not going to simply disappear. They are only overcome by education and action. Regardless of what profession a person chooses, the top income earners in any field always take quality education seriously and they never stop learning, growing and improving.

Nails Magazine has found that Nail Artists who attended 1 business building workshop in the last year earned 15% more than the average Nail Technician. But, those who attended 3 or more business building workshops earned 31% more than the average Nail Tech.

If you are prepared to invest in yourself and commit to growth and improvement in 2017, While most of our competitors are cutting corners on their training standards, Magnetic's commitment to you is that we will never stop delivering the very best Nail Technology and Business Education in South Africa.

Magnetic is dedicated to the success of Nail Technicians
